The Maintenance Attendant will work under the direction of the Stationary Engineer Lead in maintaining the Baggage Handling System (BHS) and associated equipment.

This is a Union classified position located at the John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance of the Baggage Handling System (BHS) without tools, such as cleaning and clearing and associated equipment which has been shut down, locked out, and tagged by a Stationary Engineer according to OSHA approved LOTO procedures.

  • Change air filters in non-operating equipment associated with BHS.

  • Perform general labor work as assigned by Stationary Engineer Lead such as clearing baggage jams, moving baggage, trash collection, running errands, and / or any other duties assigned for PLB and BHS operation.

  • Report any issues found that could potentially lead to additional system failures.

  • Enter and administrate data for the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) including work orders and parts information.

  • Record data for Stationary Engineers on Preventive Maintenance (PM) inspection work and provide second person watch assistance on activities that require two workers to perform for safety reasons.

  • Monitor the BHS in the control room and perform dispatch activity, including system resets, for bag jam clearance activities.

  • Assist with operational issues during outages or failures.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.

  • Comply with company safety program and trainings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the utility engineer, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Ability to work in outside weather conditions on an airport ramp around aircrafts and the confined areas of baggage conveyor systems. Specific vision abilities required by this job include good close proximity vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Good hand / eye coordination is required.

Work Environment:

The work environment is similar to airport operation with vehicular traffic. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, cold, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employees will work on an airport ramp around aircrafts and around heavy equipment.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Airport experience a plus

  • Computer, Typing, and Data Entry experience / skills preferred

  • Strong Interpersonal and Teamwork Skills

  • Ability to be badged to work in secure areas of an airport

  • Ability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift including weekends and holidays
